It’s not how smart you are; it’s how connected you are. The business coaching industry is increasingly looking at developments in the understanding of peak performance to help leaders and managers develop their skills. Valedictorians and technical experts are toppling from their pedestals as a large amount of research confirms a new formula for stardom in the workplace. The qualities of EQ, or one’s “emotional intelligence quotient,” turns out to be twice as important as IQ or technical expertise in determining who will succeed in the workplace.
Categorized as “soft skills,” the structure of the EQ powerhouse includes objective self-awareness, effective self-management, and the use of social/communication skills that help facilitate understanding and collaboration with others. In Working with Emotional Intelligence, author Daniel Goleman confirms the importance of EQ with an exhaustive review of research on top-ranked managers throughout the business world. Outcomes show conclusively that those with higher EQ consistently surpassed colleagues with deficits in “soft skills,” despite the presence of superior IQ and technical expertise among the latter.
Since these skills are not commonly addressed in formal education, their development is arbitrary for many. Fortunately, there are solutions. WealthBridge Connect, an elearning company that focuses on productivity solutions for businesses and entrepreneurs, focuses their training programs around EQ development in today’s workplace. Co-founder and Chief Learning Officer, Dr. J. Gregory Gillum, launched his personal journey of self-discovery through the coaching process, and it changed the course of his professional life. Recalling the moment of self-awareness, Gillum remembers looking at his business coach as he said, “I want to do what you do.” His coach responded, “Why don’t you?” Eight months later, Gillum became an entrepreneur in the coaching world. Prior to his role at WealthBridge Connect, Dr. Gillum served as the Chief Executive Officer of humanfusion, an award winning coaching and consulting firm that focused on leadership and management development.
Gillum’s mission as a business coach involves teaching the skills of EQ to individuals aspiring to realize their full potential. His ideas follow the findings of Goleman’s research: “If you can develop core competencies in this area, you will enhance your ability to rise in any organization.” Gillum’s unique approach to EQ training utilizes the integration of EQ into the four life domains, all of which are essential to success. Taken together, they encompass elements such as the organization of physical space, time management, effective focus, an objective awareness of strengths and limitations, and the cultivation of a sense of gratitude and accountability to the community and world at large. Gillum reports that as clients began to practice the disciplines within each domain, they experience a powerfully expanded sense of vision and possibility.
Gillum enthusiastically describes transformative outcomes with the coaching process. In addition to enhanced self-awareness and expanded vision, clients can anticipate dramatic increases in productivity. “I coached a group of realtors, and every top performer dramatically increased their productivity during the coaching process. One first-year real estate agent landed in the top 25 (of over 300) for her geographic area. She was astounded,” Gillum said. “I have had similar success with financial planners, small business owners and other entrepreneurs. Coaching has a dramatic impact on performance in any field.”
Gillum addresses the area of management with a technique he learned in the pharmaceutical industry called assimilation, an intervention designed for managers with work performance problems. The initial steps involve individual sessions with the manager and interviews with workplace associates who can provide additional perspective on the problem. The coaching strategy culminates in a powerful, live version of the 360 evaluation in which all parties involved in the problem assemble together. With the support of the coach, the manager must decide how to handle issues concerning employees and workplace issues. Gillum summarizes the benefits of this high-impact learning experience: “It creates public accountability and also requires everyone’s participation in getting to solutions. The manager’s performance improves, and the resulting ‘buy-in’ strengthens the sense of community.”
A critical part of the coaching experience is client behavioral assessment. To address this critical success factor, Gillum uses the Winslow Dynamics Profile (WDP), thought to be the gold standard of assessments by behavioral psychologists worldwide. WDP measures 24 critical traits, including the individual’s emotional intelligence. WealthBridge Connect is one of the few companies in the Midwest licensed to use the WDP.
Apart from his own passion for the work of WealthBridge Connect, Gillum is confident about the future of coaching. “Coaching is rapidly being legitimized in the business literature, as well as through personal and organizational validation with objective outcomes. Rapid changes in the workplace will necessitate the need for coaching as we move deeper into the information age, with knowledge workers becoming more in demand. The new work environment will require a visionary style of management, which gives employees permission to explore, question, and participate in the development of their own potential, and to contribute meaning and significance to the mission of their organizations.”

Dr. Gillum is the Chief Learning Officer of WealthBridge Connect, Inc. As CLO, his primary role is managing the universe of information that WealthBridge members use to drive their business to new heights. He lives with his wife and two children on a farm in central Kentucky.

SOFTWARE APPLICATION DEVELOPMENT
I n t r o d u c t i o n …
Edge over your rivals
Well – we are into ere where technology rules us. People are looking for different process to optimize their business need. With the expansion of globalization, outsourcing has turned out to be very accepted and these days many firms big or small are looking for the software application development provider. There are lots of companies who work on application development, but there are only few companies which build software that may build companies. As you know that software applications are the doorway to your organization; so why not to build from the best creator? Some times your own specific requirements can give you the edge over your rivals.
WHAT IS SOFTWARE APPLICATION DEVELOPMENT…?
The proof of the pudding is in the eating
Application software refers to software that is developed for common computer users. In the language of computer science; an application is always a computer program intended to help people execute a certain type of work in the span of less time. An application thus differs from an operating system, a utility and a programming language. Depending on the work for which it is designed, an application can manipulate text, numbers, graphics, or a combination of these elements. Some application packages offer sizeable computing power by focusing on a single task. These are most commonly known software such as internet browsers, word processor, and spreadsheet. According to software developers there are two categories of software – application software and system software. System software is software that generally computer users don’t perceive. These are the software that runs in background – such as operating system. Application development, also referred to as software procedure, software lifecycle and software development, is the development of a software product in a planned and prearranged process.
The creative person who works as an application development should always think “out side the box”. It has always been seen that diverse organizations have diverse application demands. While creating the software we should always keep the origination and the business in mind. There are teams of skilled people who are equipped with sound technical skills. During the development of software application process there are following task which are done.
1. Gather the software requirements
2. Create High level design
3. Basic layout of the product is created
4. Create Module design
5. Coding
6. Execute Module test
After going through all these process the application development gets completed, and finally ready for the delivery to the client.
I m p o r t a n c e: of software application:
As the world is getting global, we look forward for our business to be seen globally. That is why it is very important to use software in your business. This makes your work easier, faster and secure. It gives you a complete solution to your business. In this era- inventions doesn’t come by accident. They came by work.” So put your best foot forward and you’re on demand software solution to up grade your business. In nut cell Paddle your own canoe: Act independently, wisely and decide your own fate.

Business’ goal is to make PROFIT so that they can stay in business and KEEP people employed in turn.
Obama hasn’t shown business that they can make more profits by having another person. If anything he has only shown they do better by having less employees.

Starting a new business can be a harried experience. There are a myriad of decisions to be made, the budget needs stretched, the new secretary quits before the end of the first week: the struggles are endless. When starting a business from your home, you can add a slew of unique challenges to the list. Being aware of the potential pitfalls, and preparing for them can provide a way of preserving your sanity.
Friends and family members frequently assume that if you are home, you are available. Nothing can set your work back hours, faster than an unplanned visit from your mother. Setting clear boundaries regarding your schedule and availability for phone calls and visits can prevent misunderstandings early on in the life of your business.
If you are choosing to keep your small children home with you while you work, that carefully planned schedule can quickly become fodder for your three year old. Getting up early is often the best way to increase your productivity while those little angels are still slumbering away.
Having a contingency plan for days when the work load requires more attention than usual is an excellent way to head off disasters before they happen. Find local babysitters who are willing to come to your home to help out when needed. Recruit friends and family to provide occasional entertainment for short periods of time to allow you to work without interruptions. Anything that helps you keep focused is a good investment in preserving your sanity.
Running a business from your home has a few perks, especially at tax time. Consulting with a tax expert or accountant early on will arm you with the knowledge necessary to save you time and money when filing your first year’s business taxes.
Finding service providers that are both competent and trustworthy is a lesson in perseverance. The business directories, internet advertisements and even newspaper ads are clogged with scams and incapable providers. Seeking the advice of a seasoned home business veteran can be your salvation. Word of mouth will reveal strengths and problems with service providers.
If you find that you have chosen poorly and end up with a full sized, ten year old copier in your den instead of that sleek, all-in-one model with all the bells and whistles that you paid for, don’t despair. Don’t back down either. You can explain your dissatisfaction firmly and politely while explaining that the services were not acceptable. If after bringing the blunder to the business’ attention, you are still left feeling cold, you can report the offender to the Better Business Bureau: and call for legal advice.
Using good old common sense, a little street smarts and a lot of charm and honesty will help your achieve your business goals, while allowing you to keep your sanity and your home life intact.

In today’s development environment, two main methods exist to gather and communicate needs, allocate resources and manage projects; the ”Waterfall Method” and “Agile Development Model.”
Waterfall Method
The waterfall method is a monolithic approach were a product manager designs a detailed specification, gets approval from a client then engineering works from the specification. In this environment, engineering is told what to do, what screens to develop and typically how the screens should look and feel. Not knowing anything more about the application than the specification document provides, engineering is typically not able to predict exceptions, variances, future requirements, etc. This approach assumes that (1) the client knows exactly what they want and can communicate every process with every exception, variance and deviation to every process, (2) the project manager understands every process and deviation that the client defines, (3) the project manager can write a specification that will convey exactly and clearly every process and exception adequately to engineering, (4) the project manager understands the existing application adequately to determine how the new module will best fit in, and (5) project manager understands the development environment adequately to design screens in a logical and efficient method.
The term escape velocity refers to the speed that is necessary for an object to overcome gravity and soar into space. Escape Velocity Systems provides direct applications for businesses looking for a catalyst, not just a software package. Process manufacturers require the best software solution coupled with industry experience that will accelerate the velocity with which they race towards their goals. According to President Evan Garber, “The purpose of software development is to solve a business problem. At Escape Velocity Systems (EVS), the measurement of success for an application is its ability to solve the problem while providing a positive end-user experience while operating the application. An application that doesn’t successfully satisfy both of these criteria is considered inadequate.”
EVS (www.evs-sw.com) specializes in commercial-grade application development for process manufacturing and distribution. Our experience has proven that many times a business or an industry has an issue or need for automation; companies have a need to track the shipment and return of pallets but they are not quite sure how to solve the specific problem. A process manufacturer may know that it needs to be easy to use because of volume transactions or computer competency of users, but the process to achieve the end goal is typically unclear. To try to probe for a definite specification for development is fruitless; many manufacturers simply do not know (1) the possibilities of technology, and (2) all of the deviations and exceptions that can possibly occur to get to the final solution.
According to Garber, “The assumptions of this approach are nearly impossible; it also assumes that software engineers do not need to understand the purpose, they just need to know how to code, developers are a commodity. This approach is utilized frequently and unsuccessfully in offshore development environments.”
Agile Methodology EVS Style
The Agile Development Method utilized by EVS defines the product manager role as limited to defining initial and general scope for the project, understand the business issue that is being automated and manage timelines and budgets of the project. The developer becomes active in the design and development process. This methodology has the following characteristics:
1) Definition of general business purpose, scope, budget and timeline.
2) Developers understand the business purpose of the application
3) Iterative development process with client (“Sandbox”)
4) Develop beyond the specification and anticipating future needs with flexible architecture
Escape Velocity Systems (EVS) was formed in 2001 to combine specific industry knowledge related to process manufacturing, distribution, and ERP implementations with cutting edge software development. The company focus is to create tools that enable mid-market enterprises to achieve their goals, focusing on lean processes and ROI. According to Garber, “We realize that good ERP software is the hub of information in any process manufacturing enterprise. Timely, reliable, and centralized data are non-negotiable elements for businesses competing in the 21st century.”

Alex says the biggest mistakes that seminar and workshop attendees make are: (1) They fail to follow-up, (2) They do it too fast and get overwhelmed. Alex Mandossian recommends putting all of your follow-up cards into ONE stack and then follow-up at comfortable pace of about 5 calls per week.
