I am a CPA and have thought about starting up my own tax service next year. Does anyone know of a good software package that part-time tax preparers use that would allow me to file electronically and request direct deposit for 40-50 customers? I don’t think Turbo Tax will allow you to use their software for business purposes. I don’t want to take any shortcuts in this process.
I have been using Lacerte for about 7 tears now and am mostly satisfied with it. I’ve been "solicited" by Drake, however, I found that though they claim to be "easy to use and user friendly", I was unimpressed by the "navigating" process. It may be that I’ve become so accustomed to Lacerte. The bottom line is, most of the vendors will provide an evaluation copy of their software. Try a few and see if they suit YOUR needs.
Many, many studies both business/productivity oriented and psychological show that treating employees well (like humans) increases productivity, creativity, worker retention – all the good things one wants in an employee. While abusing and micromanaging employees creates stress, absenteeism/health problems, low productivity workplace errors, waste and theft …not to mention violence by disgruntled employees.
Yet many corporations are penny wise pound foolish and mistreat their workforce for the short term gain. Even though these methods have been shown through data and practical experience to not be efficient or productive.
Is this just a control issue, an abuse of power? Is the actual business an afterthought?
Greed. Control, power, simply bad folks.
Much is made of those who try honestly and still get criticised. That is inevitable.
Some try and give up.
I’d say personally, that many folks are in positions of power they’ve not actually earned. They may have used every dirty trick in the book to gain that position, and then they find out that they’re not getting their "deserved prestige" from their underlings.
Pride- they refuse to consider the possibility that the very same amount of effort and cunning that got them the positions are ill-suited to the proper running of that they control.
Stalin was once questioned by a young (and gutsy) young man– "When will you stop killing so many people?"
His reply- "When it is no longer necessary".
It’s amazing what kind of tunnel vision people are capable of in an effort to do what is "necessary".
Particularly to shine in the field of promoting Software (business) applications, one should be well aware of the Industry’s process, how it works, systems etc…
But for a fresh executive, is there any way to learn the same?
Did u try college?
I believe it shows workers in the office freezing cold and a guy talking about productivity? Not entirely sure. If you can find it on youtube that would be great! I haven’t had much luck.
Thank you!
I believe you’re referring to a Mercury Insurance commercial.

I believe people are more productive when they only work for about 3-4 days in a row; by the 4-5th day people seem to be exhausted and their production goes down. Maybe they are sleep deprived by then, or simply fatigued. I think a 4 day work week might suit people best. What do you think? This leaves 3 days open for projects and rest. I would spend them this way: one day for me (exercise, hobbies) and family projects(spending time together), one for housework and/or school projects or just rest, and one for church and/or community service. I believe people would be less stressed out, less fatigued, less ill, more involved in the community and ultimately more productive at work and better members of society! What do you think? How would you spend your time? Any other suggestions?
When I start my own business this is the way I think I’d like to treat my employees!
Excellent idea…bravo…I wish now everyone could jump on that band wagon. There would be a lot more advantages. Work week could still be from Monday to Friday with some employees having the Monday off, others having Friday. If it were flexible, then employees can take any day off in the week.
This would allow you to attend to personal matters such as dentist and doctor appointments. It would probably relieve alot more traffic congestion and in the end probably bring polution levels down.
People would have more family time, strengthenly the family and in turn strengthening the employee. I never work well when there is turmoil at one, one form or another.
It would allow me to complete more home projects and it would really be a bonus when you have a long weekend, i.e., four days off. Then, if you take only one day of vacation day, you can have up to five days off.
This would help my stress levels, less traffic and wasted gas, more energy and as you said, more productive at work, home and within the community.
As for what would I do with all that extra time off each week…yup, I would probably get a part time job….
Just kidding…made you smile though!
In the long run it would make me happier, my family happier and society in general happier. Remember, some say that the root cause of the fall of the Roman empire was the degradation of families and the family way of life.
It might seem an outmoded viewpoint, when we think of a family business we perhaps have images of cottage industries and a Waltons style group of people running it.
But, there are other ways in which family can feature in our working lives and many modern day industries that lend themselves to being family concerns. A lot of restaurants are family run concerns and the importance of having family support and a ready-made workforce are not be overlooked.
The same applies to any business really, especially those which can be operated from a home base. By nature, the family is already involved, as the business is part of the daily mechanics of the home they live in.
These days it’s not unusual for couples to work together or for other family members, offspring, to join them in business as they come of age.
They say that people care more, and work harder, for their own businesses than they do for others. Whether this is true or not is subject to debate, but there’s certainly no denying that family involvement in a business has a built in loyalty and generally a ‘feel’ for the business as it is so intrinsically woven into their lifestyle:

· Family members in business together share common values – and are more likely to have the same beliefs about how matters of business should be dealt with. This affords the business and those working it a very specific sense of direction and pride – which can only be a good thing in terms of the effect it has on productivity.
· Commitment – building a strong family-run enterprise inspires members to apply a more dedicated approach to work and willingly make any extra effort needed to ensure its success. In addition, family members can work together to accommodate one another with a view to making sure every one works the hours they wish to and has a good standard of living and desirable lifestyle.
· Business loyalty – personal ties and the strong connection with family means members are more likely to see each other through tougher times and remain dedicated.
· Future stability – building for the future generations inspires the sort of projective long-term thinking that is required for advancement and success in business.

So, what sort of businesses can be run from home and would make good family businesses?
In today’s financial climate everyone, be they family groups or individuals, needs to think about businesses that are economical to set up and to run. So count out big concerns that require large premises or expensive specialist equipment.
The money’s on consultancy type business and the Internet right now as franchise opportunities with the likes of WSI, the Canadian Internet Solutions Corporation, come in at a very appealing and recession-friendly $49,700. The fee is all inclusive and if a family group were considering it the cost of set up would perhaps be divided between them.
This sort of business, in which consultants help small and medium-sized businesses achieve success through the Internet, lends itself very well to being operated by a family, especially in situations where some members only wish to work part time as the whole concern is flexible and can be honed to suit individual needs.
A WSI consultancy franchise can provide families with the security they felt they lacked with their previous jobs.

ERP software has a prebuilt frame work which is installed on Customer’s PC from CDs. Based on customer’s business process we do customization work at our office and certain amount of customization work at clients, premises.
The Invoice is raised as supply of ERP Software. How do we minimize tax burden on customers?
All software is VAT chargeable. Pl see the circular released by Finance ministry based on Supreme Court decision.
Circular No. 81/2/2005-ST
7 th October 2005
http://www.servicetax.gov.in/circular/circular-05/st_circ_81-2k5.htm
In the case between TCS and Andhra Government, the supreme court held that VAT is chargeable on all the software products sold on any media be it branded, customised or otherwise. Even products sold over the internet attract this. Internet is the media on which the software is sent.
Now as to repairing and maintenance of the software it is service taxable like any other repair and maintenance job.
Charge 4% VAT on all sold software and 12% service tax on software services. In case of packaged software, you might have to pay duty of 12% (hiked from 8%). That makes all the software on par whether customised or otherwise and would amount to about 12%. Maximise your input credits in both the cases for better gain.
